Occupy Houston College Student Walkout On 11/11/11

Here is the poster for an upcoming Occupy Houston event.

Here is the Occupy Wall Street website.

Here are some details about the event from the Occupy Houston website-

We call on University of Houston students to meet in front of the library building at 11:00am.

At 11:30am we march to Tranquility Park in downtown Houston for a day of solidarity and celebration of global protest movements.

The festivities start at 2:00pm in the park!

From 2:00pm to 5:00pm we’re holding discussion circles in the park. All topics are up for chat, but we plan to discuss:

  • health care
  • the homeless
  • taking care of our veterans
  • spirituality in collective movements
  • occupation ideology

Don’t limit yourself to these! Tighten your thinking caps and lets talk about the issues that drive our movement. At 5:00pm we’ll open it up and celebrate art and poetry. We’ll have an open mic, so come on out and rap, sing, or perform. Get creative! This goes on until it ends, folks. We’re going to do this one right.

Don’t worry if you’re not at U of H. 11/11/11 is a national day of solidarity, and we welcome everyone! We are the 99% and we are finally making our voices heard!

  1. So, 2:00 or 3:00?

  2. Whenever you show up is when the party will start. I’m sure you’ll want to show up and support Occupy Houston that afternoon.

  3. I was thinking of going, actually. Maybe provoke one of the stupider demonstrators into reacting violently in order to discredit him and the movement generally.

Alas, I’ll probably be with the real 99 percent, working for the benefit of myself and others.

  4. Really, though, is it at 2 or 3?

  5. If you went to provoke them, they would just as likely let you to speak in front of the group. The time is 2.

  6. There’s also going to be a reading of names of the dead from our recent (and current) wars at the KBR building. If you want to participate, just show up at Tranquility and someone will help you find the way. Or just look up KBR on Google maps and go there.

I’d be there myself but I’m staying up late tonight because the trucks are coming in late afternoon and I gots me some merchandising management to do Friday night. I stay up late to reset my clock and sleep in so I won’t get tired in the wee hours of the morning.
