Old Ship Church—Clears My Mind And Helps Me Focus
I’ve been reading American Visions–The Epic History of American Art by Robert Hughes.
In this book there is a picture of the Old Ship Church in Hingham, Massachusetts.
Old Ship is the oldest church in continuous use in the United States. It was constructed in 1681.
Take from that history whatever you wish.
What strikes me about the place in the antiquity of the building—at least in the context of the United States—and the minimalism of the place.
Old Ship has been at the same location and serving the same purpose for over 300 years.
Just looking at a picture of Old Ship clears my mind and helps me focus.
I think there are places and things that have a helpful impact for us, and that these places are probably more common than we realize.
You’ve just got to keep an active mind and look around.
