All People Matter

The Floor Is Open

The floor is open for debate.

The floor is open for pretty much anything.

I saw this open floor on a recent cloudy day in Houston.

Something had been in this location before.

Now that thing is mostly gone.

Every place has a purpose.

We can see this land in many different ways as its purpose changes and as we use both our knowledge and our imagination.

The things we need to see life in many different ways are all around us.

City Prairie

I was driving around Houston a few day ago and I encountered this empty field right in the middle of the city.

It was such a big and quiet field that it seemed that I might even be able to call it a prairie. I don’t know if that would be accurate, but it seemed correct enough at the time.

I spent  a few moments in this field wondering if counted as a prairie.

I decided that it was a prairie.

The Coastal Prairie Partnership has information about prairie preservation and restoration on the Texas Gulf Coast and also has links to other prairie advocacy groups in Texas.

I’ve spent nearly every day of my life in a city. I’d not trade my urban life for any other.

Yet there must be balance in the world. There must be many environments.  The world is structured to be this way.

Among many other concerns, our minds can’t function productively if things are the same in every place.

We must live in a complex and varied world. We have to mix focus with imagination to see the variety of meanings and purposes that life holds.
