Time For A New Computer

My computer is dead and it is time to buy a new computer.

I’m looking for a computer that is able to receive messages from outer space.

I know they are trying to contact us.

Anybody have any suggestions about what type of computer would be best?

I don’t know anything about this kind of stuff. I do need a new computer, but this is as tedious a subject as I can imagine.

  1. Get a Mac, Neil. Irecently got a new computer (couple of months ago) and switched from a PC to a Mac. I love it!

  2. When I was a Windows user, my computer was something of an involuntary hobby. This was an enjoyable hobby for someone who is a little screwy, but I never knew when disaster would strike.

As Linux dumbed down to the point I could use it, I migrated to Ubuntu. Because I don’t require any specific applications for work or whatever, it worked well. Of course, I didn’t have any toys like webcams or video editing and so forth.

After blowing $300 or so every year upgrading and generally fooling around with these confounded contraptions, I bit the bullet and laid down $1200 for an iMac. I edit video, and am working out how to do so well. I do the webcam and video conference thing. OS worries are gone. Most importantly, I no longer have a hobby. Outside of the $30 for the OS upgrade this summer, it hasn’t cost anything in two years and I have more free time which I need like a hole in the head.

They just released a new generation of machines which usually means the Refurbished page at store.apple.com fills with impressive deals.

Why are Macs relatively expensive? They’re worth it.

The Apple SpacePort is €6499, and only available to Europe and South Korea. It is firewire only, of course.
