What Book Shall We Read With Our Seafood Platter?

What book shall we read with our seafood platter?

My suggestion is that one should read E.H. Gombrich’s The Story Of Art.

The Story Of Art is the book you see in the picture above. It is the book I was reading at Benno’s Cajun Seafood in Galveston, Texas last week. It is always good to visit Galveston, Texas and to see the sunny shores of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Story Of Art is concise yet detailed. It is accessible yet challanging.

You can see that it is something of a thick book, but over half the book is prints of art works selected by the author as instructive.

The book starts in ancient times and goes up until the 1980’s.

The Story Of Art will tell the lay person much of what they need to know about the history of art. It is a book that will serve as a good starting point for further and more specific studies of art if that is what you wish to do.

There are different editions of this book. I have the smaller one with the green cover. There is a larger sized edition as well.

Here is the view of another blogger about this book. The blog I link to here is called A Striped Armchair and is all about books the blogger has read.
