Texas Progressive Alliance Round-Up With Picture Of Houston Toad
Below is the weekly Texas Progressive Alliance round-up. The Texas Progressive Alliance is a confederation of the best political bloggers in Texas.
Above is a picture of the Houston Toad. This is a species of toad discovered in the late 1940’s. It did once live in Houston, but no longer does. It lives in other parts of Texas. It is thought there are between 3,000 and 4,000 adult Houston Toads still with us.
Because human beings are a menace to all life, the Houston Toad is on the endangered species list due to, among other reasons, habitat loss.
Here is information about this creature from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
I’m glad I’m not a toad. The Houston Toad lives only for two to three years and based on the picture it seems that it spends much of its life in mud.
