Esme Kenney

I’m sorry to report the death of 13 year old Esme Kenney of Cincinnati, Ohio. Above is a picture of Esme.

Esme is the sister of my longtime friend Brian Kenney.

Here is a tribute to Esme from her brother.

Esme was taken and murdered while jogging in Cincinnati. A suspect has been arrested.

This is a link to Esme’s blog. She was a student at the School of Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati. I did not know her, but it seems she was a very bright and nice young person.

I’m not sure what to say except that I hope Brian and his family find what peace is possible for them to find in the days and years ahead.

Esme’s family has asked that any donations in her memory be sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

  1. This is tragic, sad, and at the same time infuriating. Her killer had a violent criminal history. HE WAS IN THE SYSTEM. He should have been behind bars. But for whatever reason he wasn’t and he had the opportunity to commit this horrible act.

This is the second well-publicized murder in a week of a child in Ohio committed by thugs who were not in jail, but should have been. Last week, some thug shot and killed 5 people — 4 of them kids — 2 of them 2 years old. All shot in the head.

Why do we keep letting scumbags like this out of prison? Is is because of limited jail space, mandatory minimums, and the dangerous pot smoker?

  3. That’s why I’m for the death penalty for violent criminals, one issue I am not liberal on. What a sweet-looking child. I can only imagine what her family must be going through.

  5. Neil,
As usual, you have good kind words to say. I just met Esme a few weeks ago when she and her mother visited the studio where I work. This tragic event has touched many lives in our immediate community here, and although I am not a praying man, I wish for some relief for this family. I am only on the periphery of this and can’t imagine the hardship they must be enduring. Thanks for posting this.

  11. My Mother, Betty R., now retired, was formerly the Nurse at the Northside WIC Office in Cincinnati.

She remembers that Esme used to color in her office when her Father brought her to work and became busy with patients.

My Mom would like the family to know that her prayers and surely all of our prayers are with the Kenney family. We wish them God’s love and comfort at this most unthinkable time. Please relay this message to Dr. Kenney. We must continue to remember this family in our prayers. Their suffering has just begun.
