Why Bristol Palin’s Pregnancy Is A Fair Issue In This Campaign

The fact that Bristol Palin is having a baby has nothing to do with Governor Sarah Palin’s ability, or inability, to be Vice President. Bristol Palin herself is entitled to privacy.

But the fact is that the issue in and of itself has relevance to the campaign. Part of Governor Palin’s supposed appeal is her family of five children and her “hockey mom” status. This all fits in with so-called family values issues that have been a Republican staple for many years now.

If you campaign on what people’s values should be in their own homes, and in their personal relationships, then your home and your relationships are fair game as well.

A good blog post on this subject can be found at The Texas Cloverleaf. Texas Cloverleaf says this would be a fine time to discuss birth control and sex education as a solution to teen pregnancy.

Above is a picture of Bristol, Rhode Island. Looks like a nice place to get away from all the trouble politics brings.

  1. There’s a concern here that I believe any mother — Republican or Democratic — might be empathetic to: Sarah Palin has a four-month-old child with Down’s Syndrome, and a 17-year-old pregnant and unwed. She also has a son deploying to Iraq within two weeks.

Her family needs her much, much more than John McCain and the GOP. Irrespective of how the investigation into allegations of her abuse of power happen to turn out, she should step aside immediately for the sake of her family.

The longer these various distractions continue, the worse it will be for the Republican party. And her children.

  2. Yep, she’s screwed the Republican’s pooch on that retarded ‘abstinence only’ bullshit. Which is why I love her! Finally, we might have some sensible policies towards teaching kids about safe sex.

  3. PDiddie–Well, if she has something of unique value to often her nation of 300 million people, than she must consider what is most important. Though it is not year clear that she offers the nation anything of such value.

Roland–That might be too good to be true. Though I bet at least a few homes across the nation are in fact considering what they tell their kids.
