Texas Progressive Alliance Snub Met With Buddhist Writings

Once again Texas Liberal has been passed over for membership in the so-called Texas Progressive Alliance.

The TPA is group of liberal/progressive blogs. A few days ago it announced a new round of members. Many new blogs were listed, but my shop did not make the membership list.

Admittedly, I may not merit inclusion. As McBlogger poster Mayor McSleaze once wrote, I am a “douche bag” who runs a “shitty” blog.

Mayor McSleaze may well be correct on both counts.

Also, I can’t get mad because I’ve recently been reading Buddhist writings called The Dhammapada.

The book says— “He was angry with me, he attacked me, he defeated me, he robbed me”—Those who dwell on such thoughts will never be free from hatred.

What can you add to that? Who wants to be angry?

The good news, for me at least, is that I’ve not been passed over everywhere. I’ve got one of five featured political blogs at the Houston Chronicle and I also blog at Where’s the Outrage? out of North Carolina.  Where’s the Outrage? is the home of the Dr. Errington Thompson podcast.

I view the TPA as a group of fine Texas progressive blogs. The addition of BlueBloggin and Texas Cloverleaf makes it even more so. I’m glad that I was one of the early Texas blogs to include both those shops on my blogroll.

As long as you’re at the blog, please take a look around. I think you’ll see I run a solid shop. I welcome your comments and I hope you’ll come back.

  1. Neil, I don’t always agree with you, but I appreciate that you write from the heart and share of yourself here. I’ve always wanted to write more posts along spiritual lines, as that is something that interests me.

You are a liberal blogger, and your posts are interesting. They’re not always political, but when they are, your posts are often contrarian – and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Stick around and keep writing. TPA or not, you are noticed and appreciated.

  2. I’m so glad you commented because I meant to e-mail you to say I would have been supportive if you had run for Congress. That does not mean much now that you don’t plan to run. But anyway I would have chipped in a few dollars and blogged on your behalf.

  3. That stinks. Looks like I will have to keep your site bookmarked rather than just following some links.

I enjoy your blog and look forward to its future.
