Man Fishing In Houston Ship Channel

Last week I was out and about driving in Houston.

In my travels I saw this man fishing in the Houston Ship Channel.

This was not far from the Turning Basin at the end of the channel.

While you see no ships here, you see the demolition yard behind the fisherman.

Maybe he lives near the Ship Channel and lacks transporation to go and fish elsewhere.

I don’t know.

In case this does not seem like a very good place to catch fish to eat.

I can only extend to him—and to each of you—my peace and blessings.

  1. Maybe he’s looking for Blink the three eyed fish from the Simpsons. I would be concerned about lead contamination. I know that car batteries are usually puled and either recycled or disposed of safely, but I can’t help but think some of the batteries are still there. You posted a picture of a plecostomus in the channel a few month ago. I wonder what other aquarium fish you can find there. A nearby ditch is like a little version of Lake Malawi. BTW, dumping non-native fish in ditches is very much against Texas law.

  2. Bacopa–A fine comment. I bet a full biological census of the Ship Channel would be interesting and disturbing on a number of fronts.
